DON DUNN MOVIE TRIVIA

During his college days Don Dunn worked as a movie extra and appears in several different films and TV shows, and has placed himself in almost every film he has been involved in. He learned that one from the late great Alfred Hitchcock whom he always admired.

"The Book of Love" this was Bob Shaye's (New Line Cinema mogul) directorial debut. Don appears in several scenes in this film and is also in the yearbook next to the lead actors in the openning monolouge. Don also had to swing dance during the prom scene at which time he nearly knocked another young extra dancer out as she spun into his elbow and hit the floor. CUT!!!!! It's not in the film. Some of the scenes in the film were shot on the campus of Marshall High School. Don later ran a TV Studio there but quit as soon as he graduated college to pursue his film career.

"The Forbidden Dance" Don did the Lambada in this film, though he's not really a dancer, it was a chance to be in another movie, and it impressed the heck out of his small town 19 year old girlfriend back in 1990 when she saw him in the movie on cable. Ironically the dance coreographer "Miranda" who also did the coreography for the film "Salsa" ended up doing the coreography on the film "Looking For Lola" which Don was hired to Line Producer several years later. No he didn't dance in that one! (SMALL WORLD) Also this was the first time Don ever worked at the now demolished Ambasador Hotel. Years later as a Producer and Production Manager, Don shot scenes for his own films "Soul Keeper" and "Crazy" there. "Crazy" was one of the last films ever shot at the Hotel before it was destroyed.

"Barton Fink" yes the Cohen Bros. masterpiece. Don played a marine corp private in the big USO scene near the end of the film, and is standing next to the Marine that throws the first punch in the ballroom brawl. (beats dancing) This scene was shot at the Park Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, Don remembered this location when it came to Produce "The Godson" and shot a good protion of the film there. (Learned something and used it later)

"Men At Work" Don spent 2 chilly nights on Terminal Island in a Hazardous waste suit and mask working for director Emilio Esteves. Don can be seen in the forground of a stunt when Charlie Sheen emerges from a Barrel that was dumped from a forklift. Don is also in the lead truck of the convoy that is heading out to dump toxic waste. Though you never get to see his face it was a lot of fun and he got to smoke a cigarrette with Charlie Sheen who was really very laid back and cool.

"The Lawnmower Man" Don plays a paramedic removing body parts from Pierce Brosnan's back yard. He can be seen walking past peirce carrying a gurny with a bag of remains on it. Don got a chance to chat with Peirce who was very aimiable to this young film student. Don told Pierce he thought he would make a great James Bond. Pierce laughed and said he had been offered the part but felt he was too young to play that role at the time, maybe some other day in the future he said. (nice guy, great Bond)

"Parker Lewis Can't Loose" Don was a re-occurring 18 to look younger high school student and appeared several times in the pilot episode.

"Beverly Hills 90210" Don appeared in one episode in the first season in a party scene in a back yard where several students end up in the pool. It was a very cold night. He got to ride back to base camp alone in the shuttle van with Shannan Dorhety who was not very nice to him. (Big deal)

A OF FEW OF DON'S OWN FILMS HE CAN BE SEEN IN

"The Double O Kid" Don was a  22 year old P.A. on this show and did the UPM work for all the pick ups. In order to save money Don double as Corey Haim's hands in every close up, and was morified that he misspelled the word Delivered, forgetting the 3rd e in one insert shot. It made the final cut! (Still don't spell well)

"A Million To Juan" Don at age 23 was the UPM on this show and appears in the convertable mustang that passes Juan (Paul Rodriquez) on the corner as he sells oranges. It is the same type of car Juans lost love (Polly Draper) drives and Juan gets his hopes up for a moment until he see's it is a bearded Don Dunn and not his true love.

"Plump Fiction" Don Directed second unit on this film and to save money in one shot he doubled Paul Dinello as a  driver running over a mail box at Viv and Les's house the exterior of which was actually Don's parent's house. Also Don plays cop #2 in the dinner at the end of the film, nice reaction!

"The Godson" Don Line Produced and Directed second unit on this one as well and wanted a stunt for an homage sequence from Eisenstien's "Battleship Potemkin" that was later copied in the film "The Untouchables" and then spoofed in "The Godson" sort of. So once again Don put on another actors costume and did it himself. Don doubled the accordian player that gets shot in the big climax shoot out at the Godfather's house. Don rolls down the stars at the Park Plaza Hotel to get the shot(sore) Don also does a spit take at the end of the film where he is basically playing himslef , a Producer on the set of Sonney Calzone's new movie when a make beleive stunt goes bad. Don's dad Don Sr. appears in the party scene dressed in full ganster regalia. This was the first time his father ever visited him at work.

"Bitter Harvest" Another stunt! Don is a bank employee that gets pulled over a desk and thrown to the floor by a bank robber in the oppening of the film. (Ouch again, that was a rough day.)

"Hail Caesar" Don at age 25 Supervised the Production on this film and also plays a cop who arrests the bad guy at the end of the film and drives him away in a police car. The villian was played by a high school freind of Don's named Kane Picoy who happened to be mutual friends with Anthony MIchael Hall who directed the film. This was shot in south central Los Angeles, and when going around the block to return to set in the police car Don flipped on the police lights scarring off some tough looking gansters who were picking on some nieghborhood kids. (Ballsy or dumb?)

"Trading Favors" Don plays the sherrif that lights up the police lights and passes bye scarring the crap out of Lincoln (Devon Gummersol) who is driving a car with bloody dead Rossana Arquette lying next to him. Devon was chosen for a leading role in the film "REEKER" almost 10 years later when Don the Co-Producer/Line Producer mentioned his name to Director Dave Payne.

"SOUL KEEPER" Don is in the stands operating a camcorderin the oppening sequence of the film as Keith Coogan gives a monolouge in front of a civil war battle gone wrong. Don was actually rolling tape and the footage ended up in the behind the scenes footatge on the DVD which was actually all shot by Don who was also the Line Producer and Second Unit Director on the film. Don's Dad, Don SR. appears in the film, he is the old man that gets hit on the head and knocked out by one of Corey's flying drumsticks.

"COOKERS" Don doubled old Merle (Patrick McGaw) this required hair extentions and a full beard, but I bet you can't tell which shot it was for! SHHH!

"REEKER"  You will find Don sitting on a bar stool in the Halfway Oasis dinner behind the principal cast the first time they stop there for lunch.

"MR. FIX IT" Don is a comically expressive cornerman in the boxing sequence at the begining of the film when his boxer gets knocked out. Don's Dad aslo gets a close up in this one playing the pathetic old man at Jiggles the strip club in the film.

"CRAZY" Don was too busy to appear in this one but the art department did pay tribute to him by naming the record company after him (dunbar records)

"THE DUKES" Don was the Producer on this one and was very busy, but managed to slip into the very back of the crowd during the Dukes tomato commercial, he is doing what comes natural, watching the monitor like a good producer should when he can. Don's sadly missed but wonderful dog of 12 years played the dog walkers dog outside the dental lab where the heist goes down. Blue received a screen credit as Blue Dog Dunn. (No SAG card for old Blue)
